The Final Countdown to Avengers: Endgame

The highly anticipated Avengers movie set for release on April 26th has already broken box office records. Fandango recorded April 2nd, the day tickets were released, as its biggest single-day ticket-sales record in 19 years. Here at Sons of Gotham, we’ve been counting down to Endgame for a while so you can bet we’re some of those ticket holders who made a purchase on that record-breaking day. In case you’ve been living in the woods since Avengers: Infinity War came out, here’s why this Avengers movie is a must-see.

To understand why Endgame is the superhero movie to end all superhero movies, we first have to go back to Avengers: Infinity War. It featured all the usual characters: Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, and Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow. Great, sounds like every other Avengers movie, right? Wrong. Infinity War featured a whole cast of superheroes that aren’t part of the original Avengers. Stars reprised their superhero roles such as Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange, Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa/Black Panther, and all of the Guardians of the Galaxy. There are so many Marvel favorites in this movie, it's hard to list them all.

Unlike in earlier Avengers movies, the Avengers aren’t fighting a disgruntled sibling or each other. This time, they’re fighting Thanos of the planet Titan who seeks to collect all of the Infinity Stones and destroy half the population of earth. This is where the spoilers come in: Thanos succeeds in his quest at the end of Infinity War. Half of the earth’s population is gone, including superheroes like Spider-Man and Black Panther. The Avengers failed.

Of course, Marvel would never leave us without some hope that our favorite superheroes will return and save the day, which is precisely the hope they gave us in one of their famous post-credit scenes. For many, it didn’t make sense until seeing Captain Marvel, but now it has Marvel fans even more excited for Endgame’s release.

What are we expecting to see? We assume Spider-Man and Black Panther will be brought back since they have upcoming sequels being released in 2019 and 2020, respectively. We’re pretty sure that Captain Marvel somehow has the solution to defeating Thanos and bringing everyone back, although your guess is as good as ours on how. She has been considered the most powerful of all superheroes though, and we’re excited to see her bring that power to the fight against Thanos. We also expect to see one of the original Avengers meet their final end. Our guess is either Iron Man or Thor. Iron Man was devastated by the loss of Spider-Man, and we’re sure Thor blames himself for not going for the head when he stabbed Thanos, so we can see either one making the final sacrifice in the hopes of defeating Thanos.

After 22 films, we fully expect Avengers: Endgame to be the most powerful, heart-wrenching, and dynamic film yet. Plus, with a run time of 3 hours and 2 minutes Marvel has given themselves plenty of time to cover it all.
