Here at Sons of Gotham, we sell all kinds of shirts, but our hearts lie with some of our favorite brands, and Harry Potter is one of them. The Harry Potter series defines an entire generation, from the books to the movies to midnight releases, there has always been something magical about the story. Here are five of our favorite facts for all the Potterheads out there.
- The Hufflepuff common room is the only common room Harry never visits.
Hufflepuff is the most underappreciated house in the entire series, but they’ve produced some of the best wizards including Professor Sprout, Newt Scamander, Cedric Diggory, and of course the beloved member of The Order, Tonks. J.K. Rowling placed their common room in the same corridor as the kitchens. A pile of barrels stacked in the corner is the doorway to an earthy passage, and eventually to the cozy common room. Do you belong in Hufflepuff? Show off your Hufflepuff pride with one of our house shirts!
- Hagrid is allergic to cats.
In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, or Philosopher's Stone depending on where you’re from, Hagrid buys Harry an owl in Diagon Alley as a birthday present. Hagrid goes on to say, “toads went outta fashion years ago, yeh'd be laughed at - an' I don' like cats, they make me sneeze. I'll get yer an owl." Hagrid, the lover of all creatures (including three-headed dogs and giant arachnids), is done in by pet cats!
- Tom Riddle’s name is different in every language.
One of our favorite Harry Potter facts comes from Tom Riddle’s big reveal in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. He magically rearranges the letters of his name from Tom Marvolo Riddle to “I am Lord Voldemort.” Of course, the letters needed for this anagram changed depending on the language it was translated to, for example in French Tom Riddle’s name is Tom Elvis Jedusor!
- Crookshanks was the smartest character in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
Crookshanks, Hermione’s cat, was hands down the smartest character in the third Harry Potter book. Crookshanks knew that Ron’s pet rat, Scabbers, was actually Peter Pettigrew in animagus form. Ron and Hermione fought for the majority of the book because Crookshanks wouldn’t stop chasing Scabbers. Clearly, Crookshanks was meant to be Hermione’s pet - she is the smartest in her year after all.
- The password to Dumbledore’s office was always the name of sweets.
As Headmaster of Hogwarts, Dumbledore has an office guarded by stone gargoyles. The only way to enter his office is by telling the gargoyles the correct password at which time they’ll move aside and reveal a spiral staircase. Dumbledore’s office passwords were always the names of various sweets, like Sherbert Lemon, since Dumbledore was known for having a sweet tooth. We recommend honoring the greatest wizard of all time by grabbing some Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans, choosing which of these shirts you need to channel your inner Dumbledore, and showing the world how powerful you are!
